WCCTV recently secured a major infrastructure upgrade project at LAX Airport. The Auxiliary Curbs project aimed to ease access to and from the airport by increasing parking capacity by installing new curbs and expanding existing ones.
As this project was being developed next to an existing rent-a-car space and where private and commercial cars access the airport, there was a strong need for security to manage the risks.
Construction jobsites are prime targets for theft, vandalism, and trespassing. Swinerton, the project's primary contractor, was seeking surveillance that could address these industry-specific challenges.
Additionally, the type of security expected needed to offer 24/7 monitoring and a proactive response to prevent crime when staff were not actively on site.
Due to the profits to be earned from construction materials, assets, and machinery, construction jobsites in California are popular targets for thieves.
This type of crime can be costly to contractors and create delays on projects, which impacts the client and the ultimate purpose of the construction development. Therefore, securing a construction jobsite is vital to the survival of such a project, especially for the LAX Airport project, which spans a large area.
Additionally, this project is linked to enhancing customer parking experiences and renovating current spaces; any delays would prevent the use of existing spaces and could have a knock-on effect on the airport's functionality.
The risk of intrusion on construction jobsites also poses a public safety issue. If an intruder accesses their site and injures themselves, or worse, results in death, the contractors of this project could be held liable.
From this, they can face serious legal and financial implications, as well as reputational damage.
Construction jobsites have many hidden dangers and health and safety risks; however, trespassers will not be aware of this, and therefore, implementing security is the best way to prevent any unauthorized access.
Swinerton sought our support for the LAX Airport Auxiliary Curb renovation project. With over 20 years of experience in construction security support, we understand the industry's specific challenges and the need to protect it.
To mitigate the risks posed to this large-scale project, we deployed 6 of our Solar Surveillance Trailers to provide 24/7 live monitoring of the site, day and night.
Fitted with infrared PTZ cameras, they offer high-level surveillance even in dark or more remote locations. Construction jobsites like this project often offer many hiding spots for criminals, but with their zoom-in capabilities and 360-degree views, our Trailers provide the foolproof security required to counter this.
Unlike other competitors, our Surveillance Trailers are specifically designed to work as criminal deterrents in addition to the monitoring they supply. Standing at 20 ft tall, they create a strong surveillance presence, and the LAX Airport project uses 6 of them, making it clear to intruders that monitoring is in place.
As the LAX Airport project was temporary, our Trailers offered a perfect, cost-effective solution through our temporary camera rental service. This meant it could be adapted to their project timeline without skimping on the quality of their security.
Having both complete power autonomy and cellular connectivity, they required no input from the airport for power or internet, and with our fully-managed service, they are maintained by us throughout the duration of the project.
Overall, compared to more traditional, fixed surveillance systems, our Mobile Solar Surveillance Trailers could provide that enhanced, yet self-sufficient security service that construction jobsites require.
They help deter crime whilst being backed by remote monitoring services that detect threats and respond proactively to prevent further crime, and to manage any active incidents at their construction jobsite.
Through our Solar Surveillance Trailers, we have supported this LAX Airport renovation project by helping prevent and reduce the security challenges they face during this long-term construction.
This all-in-one solution has been designed to target multiple risks simultaneously, providing a more cost-effective solution for clients without requiring them to reduce the service quality they receive.
Since their implementation, they have effectively deterred crime and protected the construction jobsite.
Advanced camera technology has also helped minimize the number of false alarms that can trigger unnecessary notifications and waste time for those contacted about the matter.

Jobsites are notorious targets for thieves and intruders, however, due to internet and power being poor in these locations, many surveillance solutions are not suitable for them. Except for Solar Surveillance Trailers. Read on to learn how they can support you in your jobsite security.
