In 2023, United Airlines and the Houston Airport System (HAS) announced a landmark transformation project of the George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
It aimed to reinvent and expand Terminal B to enhance the passenger air travel experience and better manage future needs.
This major infrastructure project spanned a vast area of the airport. It encompassed various upgrades, all of which required security measures to prevent the risk of construction theft and other crimes.
Within this, any security method they utilized had to be fully power-autonomous and able to function independently, without the need for the internet or power.
As the primary contractor, JE Dunn was responsible for delivering the project successfully. Ensuring the highest level of security throughout the build would be critical to ensuring the project remained on time and under budget.
Construction jobsites, especially those spanning large areas, are common targets for criminals. Security can be challenging to manage, and these areas often house high-value materials, equipment, and machinery.
With the rise in metal theft, construction jobsites face increased crime risks, which could cause delays and heavy financial implications for the contractor if they occur. Construction jobsites in Houston are particularly at risk of these crimes, which are steadily increasing.
With such a transformation project, managing access control in this type of public location is impossible without additional security measures.
As the project was taking place at an airport, other terminals would still be in operation, with thousands of people utilising them. The security measures used needed to provide a criminal deterrent and to operate independently of the rest of the airport.
WCCTV supported JE Dunn in securing their jobsite by deploying our Solar Surveillance Trailers to protect high-risk areas whilst remaining completely power autonomous as requested.
Powered by solar energy and using cellular connectivity, this security solution requires no power or internet input from the airport without compromising quality.
Fitted with infrared PTZ cameras that can zoom in and provide a near 360-degree view, they work perfectly to cover vast spaces, including Terminal B, where various entry points could be targeted.
In addition to their power autonomy, their mobile design allows contractors to quickly relocate them as the project progresses to various locations. This keeps the security solution cost-effective and adaptable to construction projects like this.
Our Solar Trailers provide live monitoring with visual deterrent features, including 20-ft height, live voice-down audio message backup, and sirens, to prevent unauthorized access and material theft.
Using our Surveillance Trailers, we supported George Bush Intercontinental Airport in its transformation project, protecting materials, preventing unauthorized access, and deterring criminal activity.
By using just 4 of our Solar Trailers, we helped their project continue as needed and reduced the impact construction crime can have on large projects like this.
With multiple entry points to monitor, our products are designed with the specific needs of construction jobsite projects in mind, and we are proud to support them on their exciting journey to improve Terminal B and the overall experience for travellers at the airport.
